fraMediale – The Frankfurt Symposium and Media Fair

The fraMediale symposium and media fair is a Germany-wide networking platform for teachers, researchers, media educators, and policy-makers. Its aim is to build bridges between media education research and practical media education at schools and universities. fraMediale takes place every year and a half at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with the Association for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK) and the No Education without Media (KBoM! – Keine Bildung ohne Medien) initiative.

The event focuses on topics arising from current developments, which are addressed in lectures, workshops, info shops, discussions, and exhibitions. fraMediale is thus not only an exchange platform but also a stage for science communication. In addition to teachers and researchers, the participants include media experts, politicians and policy-makers from education authorities, the ministry of education, and FTzM staff and members. The lecture programme is complemented by information booths from schools, universities, educational institutions, and non-commercial media projects.

FTzM is accredited by the Hesse teachers' academy (Hessische Lehrkräfteakademie).

Within the context of the fraMediale, Olga Merz and Thomas Knaus published various articles on research focusing on the use of digital media to facilitate teaching and promote learning in educational institutions. The fraMediale series, which is published by the Munich kopaed publishers, reflects the studies presented in the lectures and documents the issues addressed in the workshops and info shops at the symposium. fraMediale has taken place regularly since 2009 (cf. publications).
